I always thought that the over-sweetening of food is a futile endeavour, enabled only by bad consumers.
Food is made sweet because people don’t mind it, but it makes them dislike unsweetened food so they start consuming only the sweet food. And so on and so forth until you can’t buy sliced bread with < 20% sugar in most US and UK stores.
If only people would give up excessive sugar and sweetener consumption, they’d find that they actually enjoy the taste in normal food. Not to mention that the sweetness one finds in stuff like stake, cocoa, grilled asparagus, buttered cauliflower and the like, some with a host of other aromas you can’t get if your taste buds are overwhelmed by a ton and a half of sugar or sweeteners.
But for some reason, most people hardly have the willpower to go even for a day or two without throwing in a few hundred grams of raw fructose or sucrose down their gullets.
