I fail to see why the flat Earth delusion is getting so much attention drawn to it.

There are thousands of shared delusions and improved communication helps propagate many of them.

A vast amount of people engage in the shared delusion of divine beings for example, and they have done so for thousands of years, with no more evidence to back their claim than the flat Earthers have.

Yet we don’t go around laughing at old ladies for going to the church/mosque/temple/synagogue/etc. We accept that it’s a (relatively) harmless shared delusion that they engage in and it helps them lead a happier life, by alleviating their fear of death and mentally easing their suffering.

A delusion should only be of concern to us if it threatens society as a whole. For example, anti vaccination movements, movements that seek to replace the scientific method with an authority-based model or movements that promote “holy” violence.

Those are potentially dangerous shared delusions that should be dealt with.
