The problem lies mainly with Medium’s format, when you get payed per clicks/claps you pander to the lowest common denominator.

If you’re actually interested in these kind of subject I suggest to check out various sub-reddits dedicated to them (e.g. for the topic of medicine/biology /r/ molecularbiology, biochemistry, medicine, scientificnutrition).

It’s not perfect by any means, but when an abstract form of “reputation” is all that people gain from discussing the subject this detracts professional writers and attracts people that are interested in learning and sharing knowledge on various subjects.
