To be honest, I fail to see why media companies dying (or going through financial difficulties) is, overall, a bad thing.

Sure, the human drama is there, but on the grand scheme of things it’s amazing that large media outlets are dying.

Anyone can be a writer, investigative report, editor or curator nowadays. The only reason why independent journalism isn’t 100% of journalism is because media networks are stuffing us full of ads to follow their publications. A day when Fox News, NYT, TWP, CNN, etc. die off is one to be awaited with joy and excitement by society, not dreaded.

The production of information should be something anyone can engage in, not something that’s locked behind the propagandist paywall of advertising.

I’ve failed to see a single magazine, newspaper or TV show that can even hope to reach the quality or integrity of some of the better blogs and youtube channels I follow.

And I say this as someone who works in the advertising business, it will be a sad they for my financials if all media corporations die and as a result stop advertising, but it will be better for society as whole.
